Rimless & LED Lettering

Rimless & LEDs

Rimless lettering is the latest style of lettering that is proving to be very popular with sign companies and designers alike.

This style is an acrylic face with the stainless steel returns bonded into a rebate or groove, combining the installation of LEDs on a backtray thus enabling face illumination only without the normal face rim.

The lettering can be as small as 100mm high caps font dependant or as large as 750mm, any larger lettering than 750mm we would normally recommend that the more traditional style of Rim & Return is used , due the expansion and contraction of the acrylic faces.

The letter faces themselves must be able to transmit the light from the LEDs and we always advise that with coloured faces the use of the available coloured LEDs to avoid “spotting”.

This new form of lettering with illumination has evolved from being a more specialist style to become an easily more visible form of lettering used in Cinemas, Airports, Shopping Centres and Exhibitions.

Due to the use of LEDs returns no longer need to be 100mm deep (as was the traditional way) but can now be as shallow as 25mm depending on the font and the main application, Centre Signs will always be able to guide you with advice for any of your projects.

LEDs themselves can be varied in sizes and quality but we at Centre Signs will only use the Industry standard IP65 or greater, this means that the LEDs have been tested to international standard IEC 60529.

IP65 explained

Simply, the IP stands for ‘Ingress Protection’ or its enclosure provides against access to hazardous parts (e.g. electrical conductors, moving parts) and the ingress of solid foreign objects.

The first digit of 6 refers to “offering complete protection against dust”. The second digit of 5 refers to “Water projected by a nozzle (6.3mm) against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.” – Hence a reliable minimum standard that you can trust.
